The character of "Le petit Vieillard" was described to me as a "nasty old geezer". There's a good bit of humour in that, too. In the libretto, the old man rambles numbers, makes curious calculations and sings in an almost stinging voice. My approach was to make him look confused but not depraved. Inspired by Maison Margiela Couture Fall 2011 looks, I turned the raw inside of a jacket out.  I imagined the character as a confused professor, with notes everywhere and when there is no paper left, the clothes take over this function.
